Coaching For Physicians

Professional development, leadership, career, relationship, and burnout coaching

"Working with Jessie during this time has been one of the best decisions I've made professionally.

She is simply amazing.”

Practicing medicine and living life while doing so can feel much better

After twenty years of working on wellness in a large healthcare organization, I can confidently say that mindfulness and mindset work is the one intervention that actually changes the physician experience in the long term.

In training, we learn ways of thinking that help us survive training. After training, those same patterns drive exhaustion, overfunctioning, over-responsibility, overgiving, and overwhelm.

Coaching helps you “untrain” the expensive patterns and create more calm, clarity, connection, and a healthier path forward.

90% of the physicians I coach choose to stay in medicine after coaching. Most choose to stay at their current job. For those working in toxic and unhealthy situations, coaching helps them leave with pride and dignity.

Whatever your path forward, inside or outside of medicine, coaching is a game-changer.

Do You Feel Stuck or Like You’re Spinning Your Wheels?

That’s how I felt when I finally invested in coaching in 2017.

I haven’t felt that way since.

Our healthcare systems need to change, and if we want to keep practicing medicine in the current healthcare climate and also have a meaningful and fulfilling life, we can’t wait.

Coaching not only helps you clarify how you want to live this one wild and precious life, but also offers the tools you need to get there.

“A fantastic investment in yourself and your future! We should all have the opportunity to experience coaching with Jessie. ”

— Emergency Physician, TPMG

Not sure whether group, 1:1 coaching, or a retreat will be best?

I get this question all the time.

The most important thing is to start somewhere. When you wait. You wait.

Send me an email with your questions or set up a free 30-minute consult.

Either way, I’ll help you figure it out.

”The very best thing I have gifted myself since becoming a physician. Hands down.”

- Dr. Zaneta Lim, Pediatrics

Coaching is normal in almost every demanding field, except medicine

Athletes, executives, and military leaders work with coaches not because they’re struggling, but because the stakes are high and excellence requires skilled support.

This describes medicine to a T, yet we are expected to perform impeccably without support.

It shows in our burnout, attrition, moral injury, exhaustion, strained relationships, isolation, and self-sacrifice. Physicians are told these are a mark of professionalism and commitment.

Physicians don’t need coaching because we are fragile, weak, or failing; we need it because the work is complex and the systems we work in are broken.

If medicine is going to evolve, we have to stop pretending we can outwork or out-sacrifice the system.

We must instead learn how to advocate, negotiate, be strategic, and prioritize our well-being.

What can change with physician coaching

  • “Very soon after starting, my mood dramatically improved and my anxiety was significantly less.” - Endocrinology

  • “I am much stronger and more in control of my own happiness. I never believed that I could feel calm and happy in this way.” - ObGyn

Physician Coaching As a Skillset for Modern Medicine

Do I offer group coaching?

Yes. I offer topic-based small groups for women physicians, and privately organized group coaching for institutions, fellowships, and teams. What's different about my groups is that they are intimate - less than 10 women physicians. They are not for lurkers. Small group programs are communties- supported spaces where you belong. They offer deep engagement and transformative change for every group member. Groups have a topic of focus - transitions, marriages, or leadership.

How do I choose the right option?

If you want private, personalized support, choose 1:1 coaching. If you want community + a shared topic focus, choose small group coaching. If you’re bringing coaching to a department, institution, residency, or fellowship, choose institutional & GME coaching.
