Jessie Mahoney, MD

Jessie is a board-certified Pediatrician, certified physician and leadership coach, an experienced physician wellness leader, and yoga and mindfulness teacher.

She practiced pediatrics and was a physician health and wellness leader at The Permanente Medical Group from 2002 to 2020.

In 2020, she left TPMG and her pediatric practice to create Pause & Presence where she supports her colleagues in medicine as a physician coach, speaker, and wellness consultant. She teaches her colleagues novel frameworks and actionable tools so they can practice medicine in today’s healthcare environment and remain healthy and whole. Dr. Mahoney offers 1:1, small group coaching, as well as individual and team retreats. All can offer CME credit.

She cohosts the Healing Medicine Podcast and speaks nationally on health, wellness, and sustainability in medicine

  1. Recognize thought patterns taught in medical training that add to the stress and distress of working in a broken healthcare system.

  2. State the core concepts of mindfulness and describe how they can act as an antidote to burnout, stress, and emotional exhaustion.

  3. Explain the physiology of shame, blame, self-judgment, guilt, and how they hinder your ability to learn from real or perceived mistakes.

  4. Describe the physiology of self-compassion and how it helps you navigate challenges.

  5. Employ strategies to increase self-compassion and mindful acceptance 

  6. Utilize mindfulness and mindset strategies to move forward more nimbly in the face of stress, uncertainty, and lack of control.

  7. Practice mindfulness and activate the parasympathetic nervous system to lessen reactivity, irritability, and anxiety.

  8. Apply mindful communication strategies.

  9. Employ the science of intention setting to navigate challenging conversations and situations.
