The Question That Changed My Marriage

What changed my marriage wasn’t a perfect conversation or more effort. It was one steady question I began asking in the moments I wanted to control: What would love do?

I used to try to improve my marriage the way I improved everything else.

More effort.
More learning.
More strategy.
More communication.

From the outside, things looked fine. Inside, no so much.

What changed things was a question - What would love do?

Not romantic love. Steady love.

Love that includes:

  • boundaries

  • honesty

  • self-responsibility

Fear asks loud questions:

How do I make sure this doesn’t go badly?
How do I get them to understand?
How do I protect myself from feeling disappointed?

Love asks better questions:

What’s true?
What’s mine to own?
What will I wish I had said?

What love would do changed how I spoke, what I asked for, and how I listened.

It’s a simple and small practice with a big impact

It interrupts the reflex to control and brings you back to your values.

And from there, deep connection becomes possible again.
