Five Years From Now: What Will This Season Mean?

Editor’s Note (February 2026): This post was updated with a few new reflections and current links.

Five years from now, what do you want to say you “accomplished” during this season?

You can stay stuck in the drama of the moment—overwhelmed by uncertainty, grief, frustration, and the relentless mental load.

You can focus on all that you cannot do right now, what you wish you could do, and for some, all the extra things you “have” to do.

You can let anxiety, stress, and fight-or-flight sensations become your constant companion.

That is the default mode for most human brains under chronic uncertainty.

Or…

You can choose to be mindful and intentional.

Not by pretending things aren’t hard.
Not by bypassing grief or minimizing struggle.

But by acknowledging what is real—tragedy, loss, sadness, anger, disappointment—and then choosing how you want to move forward.

Because even in painful seasons, there is often an invitation:

To let the disruption change you.

To metamorphose into something new and beautiful.

A few questions worth sitting with

What can you create?

What can you complete?

What do you want to stop doing?

What do you want to start doing?

What do you want to learn?

Who do you want to become?

What difference do you want to make in the world?

Our routines and habits get disrupted in uncertain times.

And when patterns are disrupted, they’re also more open to change.

Not because it’s easy.

Because the old way is no longer automatic.

That openness—however uncomfortable—can be a doorway.

The story you’ll tell later

Someday in the future, what story will you be telling about what you did during this season?

Coaching helps you become intentional about your choices—and working with a mindful guide changes everything. It also makes the work more spacious… and, surprisingly often, more fun.
