331. High Maintenance: You Are Worth Maintaining Meticulously
Have you ever been called selfish, difficult, demanding, or high maintenance because you asked a question, named a need, or wanted something to work differently?
For many women physicians, those words land in a tender place. They can teach us to ask for less, need less, accommodate more, and work very hard to appear easygoing. But someone pays for all that flexibility.
In this episode, Dr. Jessie Mahoney offers a different frame: high-level work and high-level lives require high-level maintenance. Sleep is maintenance. Boundaries are maintenance. Friendship, nourishment, time outside, rest, reflection, asking for help, and coaching are all maintenance.
The goal is not to become less human or more convenient. The goal is to know yourself well enough to maintain what matters: your health, relationships, integrity, capacity for joy, and ability to do work you love without losing yourself in the process.
