Clarity, Lightness, and Seeing Anew: Lessons from Cleaning Windows
A professionally cleaned window is a magical experience. Especially when you live in the trees.
This week, for the first time ever, we had our windows professionally cleaned.
We hired someone for efficiency and safety. And, as it turns out for much more.
The result of our window cleaning was surprising - sparkling clarity, a renewed appreciation for the view that had been there all along, and a noticeable shift in energy. Everything felt lighter, brighter, and more alive.
I hadn’t realized just how dulled the windows had become.
Until I saw the difference, I assumed the shadows and dimness were just how things were.
This experience brought to mind something I often share in coaching- the importance of “cleaning your windows” so you can see clearly.
It’s easy to forget how much builds up, layer by layer, on the lenses through which we see ourselves, others, and our lives. Residue from old storms, stress, and outdated stories can blur the view, leaving us moving through our days in a kind of functional fog.
We adapt to it. We power through. We assume the dullness is normal.
But then, something shifts. A ray of light breaks through. A streak is cleared. And suddenly, we realize how much more was available to us all along.
That’s what coaching—and truthfully, any intentional practice of reflection or rest—can do.
It doesn’t change the world around you, but it changes how you see it.
And in doing so, it changes everything.
In my office, in the yoga studio, in my bed, and in the kitchen,I am now surrounded by clean windows and filtered spring sunlight.
I can see clearly the fine details of the trees. The lacy edges of leaves. The softness of the sky.
Clarity I didn’t know I needed. It was always there. I just couldn’t see the beauty through the grime, film, and storm dust.
Sometimes we think we have to do it all ourselves. We default to DIY mode because we’re competent, capable, and used to managing.
Getting our windows professionally cleaned was also an important reminder that help is often not only necessary, helpful, and safer—it can also be magical.
When someone skilled steps in with a fresh perspective, it’s often more efficient, more effective, and more easeful than we imagined possible.
We discover something we didn’t even know we were missing.
In this case, lightness, appreciation, and a deeper connection to what already is.
Instead of charging forward or forcing clarity to arrive, what if you asked yourself:
What’s clouding your view?
Where might you be ready to let in more light?
What beauty might already be here—just waiting to be noticed?
If the idea of cleaning your windows, internally or externally, feels daunting, you don’t have to do it alone.
Getting help helps. It’s safer, faster, and often better - even if it’s expensive. Which window cleaning, of course, is.
I knew that having a husband who hasn’t fallen off the roof trying to clean the windows was worth the money. Preventing a crisis is what got me to invest.
What I got out of my investment was much, much more - a level of clarity, lightness, brilliance, sparkle, awe, wonder, appreciation, gratitude, and a fresh perspective. That is priceless.
If this resonates, enjoy my window cleaning yoga practice on YouTube and/or reach out for coaching. Coaching is cleaning the windows of your life. You get much more than you expect when you invest it.
Just like having your windows professionally cleaned, the hurdle is in taking action nd signing up. After that, you will be blown away by the sparkle, brilliance, awe, wonder, connection to the beauty within and outside, appreciation, gratitude, clarity, that show up right in front of you.
