334. When Your Dream Job Changes: Finding a Sustainable Way to Practice Medicine with Dr. Ashlin Mountjoy
Ashlin loved her work in full-scope family medicine. She had found the job she thought would be her forever job: community health, OB, clinical leadership, and meaningful work with colleagues she trusted.
Then the job changed.
As staffing challenges, leadership changes, and an unsustainable workload accumulated, Ashlin found herself needing to make decisions she had never expected to make. She did not want to leave medicine. She did not want to stop contributing. But she needed a way to keep practicing that did not cost her health, her family life, or herself.
In this episode, she talks with Dr. Jessie Mahoney about how coaching helped her find perspective, steadiness, and practical tools for advocating effectively.
Ashlin shares how she learned to create a buffer between what was happening around her and what she absorbed internally; how she chose a different kind of role in family medicine education; and why her definition of wellness is now sustainability and self-advocacy.
If you are a physician wondering whether there might be a way to keep practicing medicine while making room for family, health, relationships, and a life outside of work, it’s worth a listen.
